DESIGNED FOR PRINTING

Nuke is designed for 3D Printing from the ground up. Every angle and area was tested for safe and reliable printing on most makes and models of 3D printers, so it just may work in your own. Parts fit in print beds down to 6”x6” and require no support material. Assemblies are simple and require only super glue and hand tools. To top it off, the super simple and angular shapes of Nuke make for small file sizes that download, slice and print fast and without hiccups.

Simple, fully illustrated instructions teach you how to set up, print and assemble a Nuke Ukulele. We go step by step, and make sure you don’t forget a single drop of glue. If you are relatively new to using your printer, Nuke is a great intermediate project with no guesswork.

FULLY PLAYABLE INSTRUMENT

Nuke is  a fully playable soprano ukulele that uses standard nylon strings.  At 20% infill it is a resistant, lightweight and highly resonant instrument that can be electrically amplified, yet is loud enough by itself to practice in  your room. It is very sturdy, has no delicate protruding parts and is ideal for travel.

PURCHASE & DOWNLOAD SOURCE FILES

First, start off by getting your hands on a copy of the STL source files (3D models) that you will input into your 3D printer. They are optimized to be compatible with most printers and setups, and the geometry has been simplified to be sliced (processed) quickly and efficiently by your computer, You will receive a compressed (.zip) version of these files immediately after making your order.

ABOUT ME

Juan Carlos Noguera is an Industrial Designer, technologist and maker originally from sunny Guatemala. He has been interested in musical instruments, and is an amateur luthier. Please check out his portfolio for more of his work and experiments, as well as his details and resume.

He wants to know more about how we create, share and sell products physically and online. The idea behind Nuke came from a careful study of our behaviors of consumption and research on how designers can create design spaces in new, underserved and disruptive spaces such as 3D Printing. Nuke is one of Juan’s experiments in putting 3D printable products into the world, and you can read more about his thinking by reading his master’s thesis for the Rhode Island School of Design.

THE FINE PRINT

The product has been throroughly tested in our printers, and has been carefully designed and fine tuned to minimize risk of failure.  We have printed and assembled many units successfully, but every 3D printing setup is different, and every machine is calibrated and maintained differently.

As such, we make no guarantees, expressed or implied, that your print will be a success or that your particular instrument will be playable. Our instructions only apply to Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) printers utilizing PLA plastic filament, we cannot guarantee the fit or structural stability of other processes. We do strive to provide you accurate and detailed instructions of the construction process in order to minimize frustration, but as with any experimental product, expect the unexpected!
